W.P.A.S.G.L.
Western Pennsylvania Association Of SBA-Guaranteed Lenders
Dear Colleague,

In today’s uncertain economic and banking climate, we are all looking for ways to mitigate our credit risk and open new avenues for loan growth. It is at times like these, where lenders with the knowledge of SBA and other risk management tools are at a premium. With that in mind, I would like to personally invite you to participate in the premier event offered to small business lenders in this region. As in our previous conferences, we anticipate the active participation of nearly 250 lenders and resource partners. This year, we also look forward to enjoying newly renovated facilities and guest accommodations and we know that the food and hospitality will be as inviting and satisfying as past years.

We are excited about this year’s training offerings, and thrilled to again include training offered by the National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders (NAGGL). They will be conducting the SBA 101 session for novice lenders; SBA Loan Processing SOP & Policy Changes, which will walk lenders through the most recent changes to the SBA’s 7(a) and 504 loan programs; and providing valuable insight on how to administer SBA loans that have gone into default in a new session entitled The Evolution of an SBA Loan from Default to Guaranty Purchase.

Another new session this year which will be beneficial to all lenders and portfolio managers is the Future Trends in Lending workshop planned for Friday morning. Bank consulting firm, LarsonAllen, will conduct a session focused on the adoption of Total Quality Systems concepts by lending departments to improve loan quality and customer satisfaction.

We are also offering this year an extended session entitled Beyond the SBA, which will focus on the myriad of other credit enhancements including gap financing programs, loan guaranty programs, tax exempt financing, and the new Build America and Recovery Zone programs that are available to lenders in the region. Speakers have been invited to participate from the USDA, Federal Home Loan Bank, PA Department of Community & Economic Development, Ohio 166 Program, and the Progress Fund among others.

The Resource Fair will provide an opportunity for you to meet many of those service providers who can elevate your lending and banking performance to new levels. The resources will include Certified Development Companies, insurance company representatives, law firms, national SBA lenders and Secondary Market participants. This year, all conference participants will have the opportunity to mingle with these resources in our opening reception on the evening of Weds, March 10th, which will again this year be held in our vendor exhibit area.

We have also invited the new SBA Administrator, Karen Gordon Mills, to deliver the keynote message at Friday’s breakfast. Ms. Mills support has been integral to the recent continuance of the SBA stimulus provisions, and she will share her vision for SBA to lead the recovery in the nation’s small business sector. Also at Thursday’s luncheon, we will recognize the leading lenders in both the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia markets for their accomplishments in SBA lending with our annual awards presentation.

Finally, at this year’s event, the WPASGL will again host the now famous lenders’ party in the Matterhorn Lounge with live entertainment on Thursday evening.

Won’t you please join us? Skiing is optional, but good times and fellowship are not!

Warmest regards,

Rebecca MacBlane

The Association . . .
WPASGL, the Western Pennsylvania Association of SBA-Guaranteed Lenders (the
Association) is an organization comprised of U.S. Small  Business Administration
(SBA) bank,  non-bank lending institutions and support organizations that
participate and do business with the Pittsburgh District office of the SBA in
western Pennsylvania.

Membership is limited to individuals employed by participating lending institutions
and individuals employed by organizations who provide services to those lending
institutions.  The Association provides its members numerous benefits including:
1) providing members current SBA information, 2) a forum to provide feedback to
the SBA for its programs and policies and, 3) lender training for SBA products.

This, in turn, benefits small businesses who work with these lending institutions
that can take advantage of the SBA's various programs to help them grow and
succeed.
